Kitchener gets a new radio station - sort of

The CRTC has licenced Sound of Faith Broadcasting to move its current low power Christian outlet CJTW-FM at 94.3 to a higher power (and who else but a Christian outlet would turn to a higher power?) of 420 watts at 93.7. According to the CRTC release:

"The new station will offer music and spoken word shows, programs produced by different ethnic groups and shows on health, the arts and financial issues, all with a “faith” perspective. It will also broadcast news, weather as well as traffic reports and will promote events. The station will broadcast 126 hours of programming each broadcast week, of which 95 hours will be local programming. The remaining 31 hours will consist of syndicated programming produced by various Christian ministries. The applicant stated that it intends to broadcast an average of four hours of Aboriginal- and third-language programming each broadcast week."

There will be a three month simulcast on both frequencies until the old one goes dark.

It's kinda interesting that the CRTC allowed this, given the station was cited twice for non-compliance in the past.
