lol Eldon, if i really cared enough about this particular linguistic variance, i'd email the mayor or the museum.  fortunately, the junos are coming up and i'm knee deep in a reddit thread about who's going to win classical conductor of the year. i hope its someone from toronna.

um ya, that was meant as sarcasm.  thanks for picking up on that!

it's still Wah-say-ga

anyway, as a 30 year resident of simcoe county, i vote for wa-say-ga. those who say wa-sah-ga are the same who say tor-ron-TO instead of toronna..  Spent many an hour at the DA-rd, not the da-RD.

such a silly thing, but at least this board is talking about something!!!

i'm actually all a-titter.  the recent FCC ruling that foreign nationals can have 100% control of radio stations leads me to wonder when Canadian broadcasters, like Rogers in SSM or Acadia in Fort Frances, will try to buy out their american competitors.

to GOD HELP US

1) Typos these days are somehow acceptable and forgivable, for whatever reason.
2) investigating the Quad Cities posts going back to Jan 1 2017, you are responsible for over 90% of originating articles posted, regardless of views.
3) Heartland has existed for 10 seasons so far, and apparently successfully.  Perhaps you could offer to direct an episode?
4)  why don't you just call them "fags" or "queers" as is your non-politically correct wont?
5) I am not one of those people.

please elaborate, I would appreciate your further thoughts on hiring "straight actors" for example.
I, too, hate it when actors "director" episodes.  Give me "some piece of advice" to advance your theory.

on the one hand, the conservatives (small c) demand the CBC be held accountable, and on the other the lower case liberals expect more from their public broadcaster.  if low ratings mean turfing Shad then why should it work any differently than mainstream commercial radio.  can't win, don't try.

Query?  aren't Shads those annoying bugs that die all over the cottage windows every nite in july anyway?

nevertheless, one will note CRTC 2015-405 which determines The licensee shall devote at least 50% of the evening broadcast period to the broadcast of Canadian programs.

Moreover, in that same decision TVO confirmed the following:

TVO stated that approximately 70% of its schedule is dedicated to children’s and youth programming broadcast mainly during the 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. portion of the broadcast day. TVO’s exhibition requirements should therefore take into account the nature of the programming being broadcast and its target audience: children’s programming during the daytime when children are watching, and documentaries and current affairs programming in the evening broadcast period when adults are the viewing audience.

Therefore, bitch as you will, TVO is fulfilling their mandate.

The CRTC has called for comments on whether the Grimsby/Beamsville market can handle a new FM radio station.

Now i don't know the geography that well, but surely there are other broadcasters already covering that market from Toronto, Hamilton, or St. Catharines?  The CRTC calls it a "first service".  Really?

your entry dripped with the seething effluent of "somewhere else" as you put it.  I return to my original point.  If you had something poignant to say about radio cuts, as your title suggested, why would you waste time with the above noted quote as an introduction.  It belittled whatever position you were taking.

so you come on here and waste people's time with your incessant rantings about that board.  This is why Quad almost got shut down in the first place, because of people like you needing to vent your spleen to someplace that wouldn't fight back.

Indeed some people from the "somewhere else" bored.  We're all tired of living in the past when Quad was a bitching board for SOWNY.  you could have been original and eliminated that sentence, and made your own original point.   but hey, i have a right to my opinion too....

yes true, but we both know that in most cases, corporate priorities overshadow community need.

there were days when the suits at the top came up from the bottom.  today they're mostly rocketed in or shuffled around based on their cred as CEO to the shareholders.  Trying very hard not to name names!

And, the more young, creative, technically minded youth there are, the fewer jobs those kids have to express themselves creatively.

kinda like churning out mostly talented hockey players in an NHL expansion year.  just dilutes existing talent pool and makes everyone more expendable.....

just saying what my experience tells me workin with 9 stations on multiple formats.  stations are free to choose, but its not free to do.  go back to the 90s with promo discs from record companies.  you get what you're given and like it.  it's a little better now, but not much.

Always loved stations playing Buckcherry's Crazy Bitch or Puddle of Mudd She Fuckin Hates Me with 3/4 of the chorus muted.  Even lately, Headstones had their song muted.  Kristy Knight went into a rant about that at 11am.  Of course she was fired by Bell in their Great Talent Purge of 2015, but that's another story.

thongs?  not true if no pic.

don't get your knickers in a knot.  the vast majority of radio edits are made at the record company level, stations only play what they get.  Sure they could play the album cut, but that would mean purchasing the song, then paying extra SOCAN and/or tariff rights to transfer it from one hard drive to another.

and that would make the suits angry

I couldn't agree with you more about narrow playlists and out-of-date CanCon.  And further to your point about FM audiences being passive listeners, that's true.  Which is why good radio still needs to appeal to their local constituency with current info.  Music jukeboxes suck.....but they make the suits happy.

Yep, years later when One came out....or after that with Enter Sandman.  Even today you'd be hard pressed to find a pre-Justice Metallica song in rotation.  CHTZ is the only one i've heard lately.

Fact is, ask any metal head and they will tell you Metallica lost their underground credibility with The Black Album.  Point is,  Airplay = mainstream = selling out

It took 'tallika 20 years to earn it back with Death Magnetic. \m/
