...doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

So, I'm crazy!  Nevertheless, I post again!!!!

When all this is over and  we return to normal, what will "normal" TV viewing be like?  Will people be willing to wait a week for the next episode of their favourtite drama?  Sitcoms won't be an issue, but after a year, or so, of binging will people want to return to "appointment" TV? It's like the evolution  of TV news: almost no one waits until 6 for the network newscasts. Those who do are dying off. PVRs had already had a dramatic effect in changing viewership.  (When was the last time you saw a commercial?)  But I think Covid has changed habits even more and there's no return to heritage viewing.

So today’s the day. July 30, 2020, the day we find out if the much-ballyhooed News Talk stations live up to their constant hype or if it’s all just so much bovine scatology. When the Prime Minister is hauled before a committee to be grilled on the WE controversy, unlike anything we’ve seen before, will the News Talk stations carry all the historic  proceedings?  Or cut away after half an hour or so?   My money is on the latter. If I’m right,  it will be proof positive that these stations are just slogans with no meaning. Period. You know, just like they claim all their music stations have the “best music.”I would say to the News Directors or Brand Managers or whomever, “Now’s your best chance ever to prove that you mean what you say. Fail in this and the world will know you for what you are.  Fake news.”

So... ya wanna be in Show Biz?   Two sure-fire ways, it seems. A cooking show where some guy with blue hair bullies and abuses  you, or bring back an version of a previous hit. Hey, if they think Lucas Till can be the new McGyver, how bad can your idea be?

Vision TV, the religious station, has a bit of a problem with the truth.  Like most others I've been watching a LOT more TV lately and I've discovered a couple of shows that have helped pass the time; shows that I might not have otherwise watched.  One is Vera, a British police drama that centers around a disheveled Tyneside detective. My wife and I have grown to enjoy it and we appreciate that it's available on PBS and Vision TV. Except on Vision TV it's promoted, graphics and all, as a "Major Movie" each time it airs; complete with numerous bumpers  out of commercial breaks.  Well, it's not a "Major Movie" -- it's a 9 year-old TV show.  It happens to be 90 minutes long, but it's still a TV show. I am fully aware this is very small beer compared to everything else that's going on right now, but you know what?   It's a glaring misdemeanour as  it would be on any other station, but on a religious channel the irony is rich for such a transgression against the commandant that forbids bearing false witness.

Channel surfing last night I discovered this CHCH classic show was scheduled for  8 o'clock.  Determined to watch it live, naturally, I forgot to tune back in. Is this terrible time slot intentional?

The top CBC story for the past (at least) 24 hours has been the Raptors. Last week the Cross Country Checkup question was, "Are the Raptors Canada's Team?" At 0900 this morning they devoted 2 minutes (at least) to last nights' win. The life-threatening wild fires in Alberta?  Meh.

No wonder so many Canadians abhor the CBC.  Although I'm not among them, I sure understand their animus. If there was ever any doubt it's the Toronto Broadcasting Corporation, there isn't any more.

Tone deaf.

Have you ever heard this guy?   Flat, FLAT, F.L.A.T delivery.  Not so bad on TV where he  has viz, but on Radio he's  piss on a plate. PLUS he has this annoying habit of re-introing his guest unnecessarily. Look, it's an 8 minute segment... tops. A minute to intro and a minute to extro leaves you six. It's is NOT necessary to re-intro the guest at the 3-minute mark!!  This guy does that plus recaps everything that has just been said! Listeners are stupid, apparently, but they're not THAT stupid.

Gotta say I was underwhelmed at the impersonation. The writing was pretty funny though... for a Canadian audience.  I don`t think the Yanks got the references to Harvey`s etc.

Dozens,  if not hundreds,  of really, Really, REALLY,  R.E.A.L.L.Y good broadcasters out of work,   and this third-rate-whiskey-soaked-voice-blowhard-loudmouth-know-it-all at the end of the bar everyone wishes would just pay his tab and gtfo  is getting a network show? Really? Sigh. Yup. Radio is dead.

In that vein, Bucky, there's a Pierre Street in Windsor. The locals pronounce it Pee-ree. When you're a "broadcast professional" you better pronounce it Pee-ree too.   You can explain and argue 'til the end of days that it's  wrong and you will be right. But you will lose.

Actually what you might want to do is speak like ordinary people speak. You know, the people who listen to you. The ones you want to identify with you. Maybe it IS  pronounced to-mah-to, but hat's not what most people say,  and when YOU say it they think you're pretentious. The traditional pronunciation of short-lived is with a long "i".  Try saying THAT on the radio just once!

Rush delivers a sermon. A phone call would throw him off his cadence. I have heard him  take calls and he's not very good at handling them, imo.  There are many examples of men who delivered similar non-stop preaching to the converted.  Fidel Castro,  on the communist side. Rush and Hannity are on, shall we say, the other side. There's no difference. None of these people, past and present, left or right,  is on your side. They have an agenda. We are all being played. By both sides. It's very depressing if you think about it. So don't! lol

Best in Hamilton and arguably the country  for post Radio career -- Bob Bratina.
On the air in the 60's Bob's radio career was pretty impressive and comprehensive: newscaster, play-by-play, announcer.
Then he went on to  become a city councilor, then  Mayor Of Hamilton and is now a local MP.

He's still got a gig at 75!  And a REAL GOOD one!

Good on ya, Bob!

You misunderstood me, twice.

First of all my post, "The way I figger, everybody from  Gillette went out after work the night the ad dropped and got drunk.  Their toast? 'Success! We got them talkin'!'" was meant to refute previous comments about the Gillette ad. If the purpose of advertising is to draw attention to your product, the ad was an unqualified success. Yes, some people took issue with it. Gillette knew that going in and went with the campaign anyway.I say bravo Gillette!

Secondly, I did not mean to single you out for not posting. I said you haven't posted anything positive in quite a while  which is no sin, but even if you ARE sinless I thought it was unfair to cast stones.

What I also thought was unfair and I still do  was labeling me as a MAGA hat wearing right winger. I'm not, and as insipid as they may be, my posts prove it.

Peace, Jody. BTW, I'm a fan.
