Wow!  Dead Board!  But then again .... now a dead station as well.

Southwestern Ontario Media Forum » Vic Folliot RIP » April 22, 2023 8:24 AM

I posted this over on the SOWNY forum, but I thought it deserved mentioning here too.

I just learned some sad news on Facebook about the passing of Vic Folliot, who brought me briefly back into radio in 2002, by hiring me as a swing announcer at CKPC in Brantford.  Very sad news.

Craig Fox passed this along on the Radio Station Lounge Facebook group.

Southwestern Ontario Media Forum » Tom Allen (Energy and CKPC) Passes » October 13, 2022 6:26 PM

I just read this on the Facebook Radio Station Lounge.  He was mornings on Energy 108, briefly on Hot 103.5, and most recently on 1380 CKPC.  Saddened to hear this.

I check once a week, but alas, nothing here

Southwestern Ontario Media Forum » It's Been Nearly Four Months » May 28, 2021 11:46 AM

Hey is anyone here attending to this forum?  Is it still alive?

There are some people who would be definitely interested in signing up again, and posting about radio and TV in Kay-Dubya, Brantford and the hammer.

Would someone please reply and provide details on how people can sign up?  I was asked to post something of this nature, because I still have a working account.

Thank you.

I learned recently of her passing after a battle with cancer.  I thought I would link this post from SOWNY.  I felt that her memory should be commemorated here.

Southwestern Ontario Media Forum » Is the Big Blue Board officially dead? » May 27, 2020 1:12 PM

I keep waiting to see if something else happens here.  I've considered removing my login, but I'm still here.
I'm almost wondering what happened to Exidor.

Southwestern Ontario Media Forum » Is the Big Blue Board officially dead? » January 22, 2020 10:07 PM

Well the last few months before that, the posts were primarily WBEN/Fox style political commentary from Exidor, who seems to have (wait for it) .... Exited-the-Door.   Thank you, thank you - I'm here all week!

Southwestern Ontario Media Forum » LET'S GET BACK TO LOCAL . . . » April 10, 2019 10:05 AM

Excellent suggestion.  And while we're at it, let's be less disparaging to colleagues and other radio types.
By the way, great news regarding Roger Ashby.

Southwestern Ontario Media Forum » Programming » April 9, 2019 9:34 PM

What I get tired of is the whole Mary Tyler Moore references to John Moore.  Or saying he's having a meltdown.  Basically Exidor hates ANYTHING the least bit left-winged, unlike a centrist who sees the best of both sides.  It becomes exhausting to read.

Thanks Eldon.  Everyone who has ever mentioned it to me has always said Wasaga Beach as Wah-Say-Ga.  So I appreciate the correction.  apparently Torontonians (which I'm not one) say it as Wa-Say-Ga.  I'm from Stoney Creek.  Hamiltonians suffer from the same affliction.

I'll make sure that I say Was-Saw-Ga next time.

You misunderstood me, twice.

First of all my post, "The way I figger, everybody from  Gillette went out after work the night the ad dropped and got drunk.  Their toast? 'Success! We got them talkin'!'" was meant to refute previous comments about the Gillette ad. If the purpose of advertising is to draw attention to your product, the ad was an unqualified success. Yes, some people took issue with it. Gillette knew that going in and went with the campaign anyway.I say bravo Gillette!

Secondly, I did not mean to single you out for not posting. I said you haven't posted anything positive in quite a while  which is no sin, but even if you ARE sinless I thought it was unfair to cast stones.

What I also thought was unfair and I still do  was labeling me as a MAGA hat wearing right winger. I'm not, and as insipid as they may be, my posts prove it.

Peace, Jody. BTW, I'm a fan.

Hey Mike:

It's all good.  It wasn't you I was labeling.    I'll leave it at that.  No hard feelings I hope.

Cheers,
Jody

Jody, that's unfair.

No offense, but if I may, I haven't seen you post anything postive in quite a while... if ever. Just sayin'

No it's not unfair.  There's nothing but politics here (and I'm sorry but it's all right wing.  You can think how you like, but that's not what this board is for).   So then to answer your second question, what is here to inspire me to post at all?  By the way, no sense singling me out for not posting, many MANY others have not as well.

I haven't visited here in a long time; no need to return.

Pretty much how I feel.  With all of the "Mary Tyler Moore" comments and pro-Trump crap here, this board has lost any reason to exist.  It was way better when Irvine was here.  But in any case, there is nothing here mentioning KW or Hamilton Radio anymore.  Where are questions about CHYM or K-Lite or CHML?  It just seems to be the Exidor right-wing board.

Southwestern Ontario Media Forum » Just a Question About This Board .... » December 8, 2018 10:02 AM

Lately, the ONLY people I ever, ever see here are Mike and Exidor.  I rarely see anything but fairly conservative news stories, or American radio stuff.  Are there still any other radio enthusiasts here?

Sure I don't post much here (neither do I post much at SOWNY), but I enjoy content to read.  And I can't save the forum all by myself.  What happened here?

Sometimes, it bugs me that we've seemed to come to some normalcy about it.  I still remember the events often.

Say what you will, but people were posting at least.  I know it gets out of hand sometimes, but it's certainly entertaining.

Southwestern Ontario Media Forum » Anyone pining for Ziggy? » July 17, 2016 4:12 PM

You guys were asking for Irvine to come back a few weeks ago.

I think a lot of the time, forums readers see disagreements as a bad thing on the board.  But really, it's the sort of stuff that get conversation going.  Plus, it's only when someone challenges you, do you see what it is that you really value.  When everyone agrees all of the time, things go quiet.

Southwestern Ontario Media Forum » TVO » June 9, 2016 9:27 AM

Oh I get that completely.  I REALLY do.  But TV Ontario existed in the much beloved days of the Bill Davis government, the hated Rae days, and so forth.  Just because today's Liberals make most of us start seething, doesn't mean I want media options to go away, that many other markets don't have.  But I hear you.

Southwestern Ontario Media Forum » TVO » June 9, 2016 6:31 AM

First off, I'm not sure that AM Stereo was all that overrated.  I remember it hardly garnered any attention at all.  And likewise, I don't hear tons of people shouting Steve's name to the hills either, but I think he's quite a competent interviewer.  Steve is indeed mild-mannered, but does get to the juice of the matter.  He appeals to those of us who want more substance I suppose.

I've mentioned before that I wasn't bothered that The Agenda topics didn't pertain to just Ontario.  It's television for Ontario residents, but it doesn't have to be about Ontario.  To me it's a go to place for political analysis, that's for sure.  And that can be provincial, federal or stateside.  Again, no problems with me that it can deal with outside of Ontario.

Southwestern Ontario Media Forum » Guelph Mercury to cease printing » January 25, 2016 11:54 PM

Awwww, thanks Mark.  Irvine's name and the word "sensitivity" can indeed go hand in hand, and I would never have believed it (kidding )

By the way, I was mailed a copy of Nevin Grant's new book.  So my heart is very warm thank you.

Southwestern Ontario Media Forum » Hey Jody! » January 11, 2016 7:19 PM

No Steve Paiken will do fine.  My beef is that the only way we can have programming like that is with public style television.  If it were left to the free market, there's no demand for it.  Most people don't want Brit dramas and current affairs.  So to me, it's not whether or not The Agenda deals with Ontario affairs.  I'm perfectly fine that it goes off topic nationally or internationally.  I just liked the show for what it was, and I want there to be something like it to watch on TV.  I like when three past politicians get on there and recall how the political landscape and economics were different in 1980.  I like hearing a roundtable go into extreme detail about why Mulcair couldn't pull a win, and compare how his campaign went from month to month.  I like that dry but rather interesting stuff.  I guess I think like a pundit.

How Irvine imagines me reacting ... lol

Not steaming Mark.  We've discussed it, and it was a sad day, but I'm moving past it.  We don't disagree as much as you might think.  I'm just saddened by the recent events, but I'm not blind to the whys and hows.  Rather than arguing relevance, I would more accurately say I miss a lot of things about the past, and wish sometimes I was back there.

I don't know what the Syrian refugee situation has to do with CHCH, but didn't Thornhill elect a conservative?  I voted NDP for what it's worth.

Edit:  There does seem to be an inconsistency here.  Peter Kent was elected Conservative (one of the only ones voted in the GTA) in Thornhill, but John McCallum seems to be respresenting Markham-Thornhill (???)

Southwestern Ontario Media Forum » CHCH Makes Big Cuts » December 16, 2015 11:27 PM

In the case of CHCH, I would say "Yes" it does connect with a lot of people.  That's not just me fantasizing.  You just have to check out Facebook and realize there are a whole host of different types of people, in different walks of live that are mourning these changes.  These are not just die hard fans or media types at all.

While I completely get what you're saying following that, I think CHCH does stand apart from your examples.  Maybe CHEK in Victoria too.  After all, isn't it community owned? (so that's even a better example, because somebody had to care about it)
