CBS RADIO | ENTERCOM Merger

http://deadline.com/2017/02/cbs-merge-radio-business-entercom-1201900783/

Pending FCC approval, the CBS|Entercom merger should take place in the second half of this year.
CBSRadio will own 72% of the new stock.  Entercom will control 5 of the 9 board of directors, including CEO.
Follows Disney selling off their radio division.

Changes at WBEN Buffalo?
- Could revert back to CBS NEWS
- eliminating some off air jobs
- possible rebranding to 'CBS Buffalo'

Re: CBS RADIO | ENTERCOM Merger

The merger between CBS and Entercom was done mainly for their music division not for AM (talk) stations.
AM stations can be sold off.  Two of the stations in Boston, MA must be sold off to comply with FCC rules; probably WRKO-680 talk will be one.

Re: CBS RADIO | ENTERCOM Merger

WBEN cancelled the Friday 11:00 a.m. MOVIE SHOW with Cinema Bob after 20 years.
It was the right business decision.
Operations manager Tim Wenger's statement "In a time when resources are limited, we've made the decision to end the Movie Show and focus our efforts and resources on programming on the top news issues of the day..."
A movie show is a bad lead-in for Rush Limbaugh, especially when looking at the demographics.

It would seem The Buffalo News disagrees.

Jeff Simon: The end of the "Movie Show" on WBEN is a mistake

Re: CBS RADIO | ENTERCOM Merger

i'm actually all a-titter.  the recent FCC ruling that foreign nationals can have 100% control of radio stations leads me to wonder when Canadian broadcasters, like Rogers in SSM or Acadia in Fort Frances, will try to buy out their american competitors.
