This site used to be the place to go for news from Kitchener and Cambridge (Galt) radio. When arriving in 1960 to do the AM drive at CKCR Kitchener, competition was reserved to CFTJ Galt and CKKW Kitchener. That was BC radio (before computers). It was "real radio" when you had to master the cart machines, reel to reel and the large Ampex machines behind you. This was done WITHOUT an operator. You and the news department, how cozy! The set up today usually includes two voices, and perhaps 2-3 operators (is that what they are still called?) without any concentration on news. Today the air waves are over-run with competition ruled by corporations which have de-personalized broadcasting. The Corp's concentration on their bottom line leaves little time for extemporaneous conversation. Sad but true. Good times, BC radio.

All three stations are still active. CKCR is CHYM and has been the #1 station in K-W/Cambridge forever. CFTJ is now Dave Rocks (after being Top 40 CIAM and then alt rock The Zone). CKKW is still CKKW aka Bounce Radio. Actually all three stations have done well in the ratings (at least they were when ratings were available to the public). In 1960 I was listening to 1050 CHUM, CKEY and CKOC. Where did the years go?
