Interesting news out of San Francisco.. KGO used to be a legendary talk station there. Number 1 in the market for something like 30 years. Then the brain trust at Cumulus (one of those mega radio companies) gutted it about 3 years ago. They went all-news to go toe-to-toe with news powerhouse KCBS.* Use buzzer SFX here.* They now rank 15 to 20th in the market. It's has been an unqualified disaster. Revenues are so bad they are programming informercials for the first time ever, alienating what's left of the audience even further.
It appears that have seen the multi-million dollar error of their ways and are returning to talk. Will it work? Probably not. Some people really shouldn't be in our bsuiness.

Same mindset for sure. Ditto for Rogers and Bell these days.

It all depends on the knowledge & charisma of the hosts, eh?

On paper, yes. Ask Target about looking good on paper. Actually, that's a good analolgy. Target had a very large constituency in Canada who loved the Target concept in the U-S. The company comes here and does it on the cheap. Result? Well we know the result. It's unlikely that anything that they could have done to make amends would have worked. So KGO might climb a few notches in rank, but to regain the lofty position it had before? Highly doubtful.

Target's Cdn executives lacked knowledge and floor staff had little if any charisma; a formula that doomed it to failure from the get/go

That's kinda the point I was making.
Now permit me to make a coupla edits to your post... (Any Canadian media giant)`s executives lacked knowledge and the announce staff had little if any charisma; a formula that doomed it to failure from the get/go.
Yeah, that works.
